Twenty-four of the nation's brightest minds and junior golfers were named to the HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team by the American Junior Golf Association and HP Tuesday, Oct. 7. The 2008 team, sponsored for the 14th consecutive year by HP, consists of 12 young men and 12 young women who demonstrate the ability to excel both on the golf course and in the classroom.

 The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) has awarded scholarships to 15 college students as part of the GCSAA Scholars Program administered by GCSAA's philanthropic organization, The Environmental Institute for Golf.

The University of Wisconsin, which tied for second last year, will be back next month to play in the Gopher Invitational once again, and so will the Badgers' Danny Zimmerman, who was co-medalist in the 2007 tournament. Zimmerman is one of five players from the top 10 last year who will return to Spring Hill Golf Club for this year's tournament, which will be played Sept. 12-14.

Wes McNulty of Pine Bluff was 5-under par for 14 holes defeating Allen McFerran of Fort Smith 5 & 4 to win the 2008 ASGA Men's Match PLay Championship. McNulty defeated Eddie Craven of Little Rock 3 & 2 in the morning semi-finals while McFerran defeated Razorback teammate Jason Cuthbertson of Conway 4 & 3.

The University of Arkansas had 46 first-year student-athletes named to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll the league office recently announced. Highlighted by nine women’s swimming and diving team members, Arkansas’ 46 selections ranked as the fifth-best in the league this year. South Carolina topped the list with 67 selections followed by Florida with 66, Alabama with 55 and Kentucky with 52.
