Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) today announced the October 15 retail launch of its Spring 2011 apparel line for men and women. Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker triumphed at the Deutsche Bank Championship in dramatic fashion, and moved into the top position in the FedEx Cup Playoff standings with two tournaments remaining. In an exciting Labor Day finish in which several players had a chance to win, Stricker converted a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, then hit a delicate chip on the par-5 18th for a tap-in birdie. He closed with a 4-under 67 to finish at 17-under 267, one shot clear of fellow Titleist loyalist Jason Dufner (Pro V1, 909D Comp driver, 906F2 fairway metal, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design sand wedge, Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Kombi putter), who shot a final round 6-under 65, and Scott Verplank (Pro V1, Vokey Design sand wedge, Spin Milled lob wedge), who birdied his final four holes for a 67.

Jack Holmgren, who played on Wayzta's state Class AAA championship team this spring, shot a 1-over-par 73 on Monday at St. Cloud Country Club and then won a three-hole playoff to claim medalist honors in the Boys Division at the Minnesota PGA Junior Players' Cup for the 13-15 Age Group.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker followed up a tournament record-tying 61 on Friday with a final round 7-under 64 to capture the John Deere Classic by three shots. Stricker’s closing performance included five birdies and an eagle en route to a 20-under 264 total, to claim his second win of the season and the sixth of his PGA Tour career. He won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in May. Fellow Titleist Brand Ambassadors Zach Johnson and Brett Quigley were among three players tied for 2nd place at 17-under 267.

Natalie Lansing, the 2008 state Class A high school champion, set the pace in the Minnesota PGA Junior qualifying at Loggers Trail, shooting a 5-over-par 77. That brought her in two strokes ahead of runner-up Emily Kvidera.

Kevin Cahill of Merrill Hills Country Club needed all 18 holes to defeat Kelly Kretz of Riverview Golf Course in the finals of the 2009 WSGA State Match Play Championship sponsored by TaylorMade. Cahill had a number of close matches on the way to his victory after shooting a 1-over par 73 in the stroke play qualifying round.

In preparing for Wisconsin's first golf museum, the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will host a fundraiser on Sunday, May 20, at Lawsonia Links. The course is located in Green Lake at W2615 S. Valley View Drive. The fundraiser will initiate a series of events leading up to the grand opening of The Golf Wisconsin Heritage Center Museum in Green Lake in fall 2008.

One of the requirements for participating in the WSGA State Amateur is taking four days off of work.  Luckily, Ben Bendtsen III took the time off this year.  Bendsten of The Racine Country Club came out on top in a playoff Thursday to win Wisconsin's biggest amateur tournament of the year, sinking a birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff to defeat Danny Zimmerman of Hawks Landing Golf Club.

Veterans of USGA Championships will go for title at Milwaukee CC

Gene Elliott of West Des Moines advanced to the 2008 United States Mid-Amateur Championship after shooting a 1-under par 70 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames on Monday. Ron Peterson defeated Rob Lynch for 1st Alternate position after each shot a 2-over par 73.

The University of Wisconsin, which tied for second last year, will be back next month to play in the Gopher Invitational once again, and so will the Badgers' Danny Zimmerman, who was co-medalist in the 2007 tournament. Zimmerman is one of five players from the top 10 last year who will return to Spring Hill Golf Club for this year's tournament, which will be played Sept. 12-14.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle today signed into law a bill (AB479) creating a special “Golf Wisconsin” license plate. The majority of funds raised by the plate will support Wisconsin PGA junior golf programs as well as additional golf promotion by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. The “Golf Wisconsin” plate will cost drivers an extra $25 per year.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle will be on hand at the 86th PGA Championship this week at Whistling Straits in Kohler to promote Wisconsin as a tourist destination and as a state to live, do business, and raise a family. The Governor will be at the tournament Wednesday through Sunday, and will be available to the media for interviews."Wisconsin is honored to host the PGA Championship - the Super Bowl of golf - at the stunning Whistling Straits golf course," Governor Doyle said. "It has been 71 years since the PGA Championship was last played on a Wisconsin course, and we are excited to showcase Wisconsin and its spectacular golf resorts to the rest of the country and the world."

At the American Club in Kohler today, Governor Jim Doyle outlined a sweeping agreement with the PGA of America that will provide the PGA with logistical and personnel support for traffic, security, and emergency management during the PGA Championship event to be held at Whistling Straits August 9-15, 2004. Also announced today was the Governor’s “Golf Wisconsin” program, a series of promotions and events designed to promote golf and golf-related tourism across Wisconsin.
