Pebble Beach Resort has been ranked No. 1 in the 2009 edition of Golf Digest's 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America. Lorens Chan of Honolulu, hung on to his second-round lead to win the TEE UP Junior Challenge presented by Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Cup on Thursday. His final round 2-under-par 70 gave him a two shot victory over Rak Cho of Brea, Calif. Szu-Han Chen of Beaumont, Calif., fired a final-round 4-under-par 68 to win by four shots. Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) announced today that its Board of Directors has elected to reduce the second quarter dividend to $0.01 per share, payable on July 15, 2009 to shareholders of record as of June 26, 2009. This represents a $0.06 reduction to the dividend declared and paid on April 29, 2009, in the amount of $0.07 per share. This action will allow the Company to retain an additional $15.2 million in cash on an annualized basis, which represents $11.4 million over the balance of 2009.

Cobra Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy burst out of the gates at Kapalua Resort's Plantation Course and outclassed an elite field of 2008 PGA Tour champions to win the first event of the 2009 PGA Tour season, the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Championship. The Hampton is a beautiful 9 hole course popular with many people since the 70's. Located in the center of apartments, condominiums and homes in Rochester Hills, the park like setting is a great escape for a quick 9 with family or friends. Don Carlson, long-time handicap chairperson and original club delegate at Riviera Country Club, beloved golf ambassador, and a long-time educator, a man whom Peter Jacobsen once dubbed "Mr. Riviera", has passed away on September 28, 2008 just 48 days shy of his 95th birthday. "Although death was expected," said his son, Chris, "we thought we would have another month or two with him. Cleveland Golf and Never Compromise congratulate staffer Boo Weekley on his outstanding performance during the 2008 Ryder Cup. Team USA beat out their European rivals by a final score of 16 ½ to 11 ½, earning their first victory since 1999, while giving them their largest margin of victory dating back to 1981. Weekley, a Ryder Cup rookie, played some of the best golf of his career on Sunday completing four birdies and a hole-out eagle on his first eight holes of play. His front nine score of 29 gave him a commanding 3-up lead over his opponent and he finished the round at 8-under par by sinking a 20 foot birdie putt to win his final match. Weekley finished with a 2-0-1 record while earning a total of 2-1/2 points overall during the 37th Ryder Cup.

Camilo Villegas captured his first career PGA TOUR title with a two-shot, wire-to-wire win at the BMW Championship. Representative of the new breed of young, powerful players on the PGA TOUR, Villegas is powered by the King Cobra L4V Driver, King Cobra Speed LD Fairway Metals and King Cobra Pro CB Irons. He becomes the third Cobra Brand Ambassador to win on the 2008 PGA TOUR, following J.B. Holmes’ victory at the FBR Open and Geoff Ogilvy’s win at the WGC-CA Championship. He also becomes the 10th first-time PGA TOUR winner this year. The victory is the second as a professional for Villegas as he captured the Coca-Cola Tokai Classic in Japan in 2007.

Golf Magazine recently featured its annual Top 100 Courses You Can Play rankings in its 2008 September issue, and for the first time Golf Magazine added a state-by-state ranking. OB Sports-managed We-Ko-Pa Golf Club debuted at No. 44 for its Saguaro course and No. 35 for its Cholla course in the Top 100 category. Five other OB-managed golf facilities were honored in the state-by-state rankings. Both courses, Players and Celebrity, at Indian Wells Golf Resort were ranked 13th and 16th respectively in California. Eagle Mountain Golf Club came in at No. 18 in Arizona. Three Crowns Golf Club earned the 4th spot in Wyoming. Longbow Golf Club made the 30th spot in Arizona, and Langdon Farms Golf Club was ranked No. 14 in Oregon.

The University of Wisconsin, which tied for second last year, will be back next month to play in the Gopher Invitational once again, and so will the Badgers' Danny Zimmerman, who was co-medalist in the 2007 tournament. Zimmerman is one of five players from the top 10 last year who will return to Spring Hill Golf Club for this year's tournament, which will be played Sept. 12-14.

The Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society’s (LAFDHS) 2008 Fallen Firefighters Celebrity Golf Tournament will take place March 24, 2008 at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge…. only a few foursomes remain available. Funds raised will benefit the Society, help launch educational outreach programs for elementary school children, and finalize the Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial in Hollywood.
“Let’s make this year’s tournament the event that allows us to complete our Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial,” said LAFD Battalion Chief Greg Gibson, President of the Historical Society. “It’s up to us to carry the torch for these men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the property and people of the city of Los Angeles.”
