PGA Tour player Jeff Overton has joined Cleveland Golf's PGA Tour staff. Overton, a member of the United States' 2010 Ryder Cup team, is coming off a career year with three second place and two third place finishes. Overton also boasts the unique distinction of being one of only two Americans ever to make it onto the U.S. Ryder Cup team without having won on the PGA Tour.

Throughout the 2010 season, Callaway will provide a full set of its new Diablo Edge golf clubs, the longest of their kind that Callaway has ever developed, to any big league player who hits a home run that travels a distance of at least 470 feet. Acushnet Company, the golf business of Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE: FO), and manufacturer of Titleist, the #1 ball in golf, announced that it won a jury verdict in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware in its golf ball patent dispute with Callaway Golf Co.. Callaway asserted that previous generation Titleist Pro V1 golf balls had infringed on four patents originally owned by Spalding and subsequently purchased by Callaway Golf. The jury agreed with Acushnet’s position that the patents in question are invalid.

As season openers go, this performance could not have been scripted any better. Trusting the Pro V1 golf ball, and for the first time, a bag of Titleist equipment, Geoff Ogilvy successfully defended his SBS Championship on the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Ogilvy posted a one-shot win at the winners-only tournament, rallying from a two-shot deficit with 10 holes to play. He closed with a 6-under par 67 to finish at 22-under 270. Displaying focus, determination and consistency, Ogilvy fired four consecutive rounds in the 60's for the second year in a row en route to his seventh career PGA Tour title. It marked another great start for the #1 ball in golf and an even better one for Titleist's newest brand ambassador.

The Lincolnshire Police Department has confirmed that Lloyd Morris, of Deerfield, Illinois, and Marco Maggiore, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, were arrested on November 23, 2009 and charged with money laundering, computer fraud, mail fraud and theft. According to an official with the Lincolnshire Police Department, these two individuals allegedly took advantage of the popularity of Titleist Pro V1 golf balls in a scam that resulted in at least 88 victims and over $400,000 in damages, and additional charges may be forthcoming. Morris and Maggiore were held at the Lake County Jail with bonds set at $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.

The ringleader of a wide ranging criminal conspiracy involving the sale of counterfeit golf equipment pled guilty to various charges, including conspiracy and counterfeiting, in a London court this week. Gary Bellchambers, and eight other defendants, were charged with various crimes, including counterfeiting and conspiracy after the local Trading Standards office conducted an investigation into their fraudulent eBay business. The counterfeiting activities included the sale of potentially millions of pounds worth of fake golf equipment. Bellchambers, 45, will be sentenced in the near future. Two of Bellchambers’ co-conspirators, Keith Thomas, 49, and Chris Moughton, 56, also admitted guilt, while six other defendants are currently on trial in Snaresbrook Crown Court in London. According to an eBay official, this is one of the largest counterfeit products conspiracies discovered on their website.

At the Monday conclusion to the rain-plagued RBC Canadian Open, Nathan Green (Pro V1) holed a par putt on the second hole of a sudden death playoff to capture his first career PGA TOUR victory. The 34-year-old fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to finish regulation at 18-under 270. He saved par on the first playoff hole and then tapped in for a par and his first win in 112 career PGA TOUR starts. It was fitting that Green's first victory would come in Canada. Green began his professional career on the Canadian Tour and, coincidentally, is a Toronto native (Toronto, Australia).

Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:ELY) today announced that it has priced and increased by $15 million its previously announced private offering of preferred stock. Callaway will issue $125 million principal amount of 7.50% Series B Cumulative Perpetual Convertible Preferred Stock, $0.01 par value, with a liquidation preference of $100 per share. The Company also granted the initial purchasers a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional $15 million of the preferred stock. The preferred stock will be resold to a group of qualified institutional buyers pursuant to the Rule 144A exemption from registration under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended. The sale of the preferred stock is expected to close on June 15, 2009. The Company will pay cumulative dividends on the preferred stock from the date of original issue at a rate of 7.50% per annum of the $100 liquidation preference per share, subject to adjustment in certain circumstances.

Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) announced today that its Board of Directors has elected to reduce the second quarter dividend to $0.01 per share, payable on July 15, 2009 to shareholders of record as of June 26, 2009. This represents a $0.06 reduction to the dividend declared and paid on April 29, 2009, in the amount of $0.07 per share. This action will allow the Company to retain an additional $15.2 million in cash on an annualized basis, which represents $11.4 million over the balance of 2009.

With a full bag of Nike Golf products, Paul Casey captured the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship for a second time using Nike Golf technology. In Casey's first win of the 2009 season, his pin-seeking iron shots with his Nike Victory Red (VR) irons led him to beat the competition. "I am delighted to have won again here in Abu Dhabi. It's a great start to the season," said Casey. "I have worked very hard on my game over the winter and this, combined with the new VR irons in the bag, has made the difference between winning and all the top 10 finishes I have had over the last two years." Casey took advantage of a mixed set of Nike VR irons by putting into play a 3, 4 and 5-iron from the VR Forged Split Cavity line and 6-PW from the VR Forged TW Blade line. His mixed set of VR's led him to a seventh-place finish in greens in regulation averaging 82% for the tournament. With Casey shooting impressive rounds of 69-65-63-70, these Tour-inspired irons have proven that they are in fact synonymous with "victory."

Cleveland Golf staff player Vijay Singh officially won the 2008 FedEx Cup after completing his final round at The Tour Championship. Cleveland Golf and Never Compromise congratulate staffer Boo Weekley on his outstanding performance during the 2008 Ryder Cup. Team USA beat out their European rivals by a final score of 16 ½ to 11 ½, earning their first victory since 1999, while giving them their largest margin of victory dating back to 1981. Weekley, a Ryder Cup rookie, played some of the best golf of his career on Sunday completing four birdies and a hole-out eagle on his first eight holes of play. His front nine score of 29 gave him a commanding 3-up lead over his opponent and he finished the round at 8-under par by sinking a 20 foot birdie putt to win his final match. Weekley finished with a 2-0-1 record while earning a total of 2-1/2 points overall during the 37th Ryder Cup.

Nike Golf dominance on the PGA Tour continues as Carl Pettersson becomes the 7th Nike Golf athlete to win in 2008, bringing the number of PGA Tour wins by Nike Golf athletes to 11. A hometown favorite in North Carolina, Pettersson performed a near-perfect display of ballstriking all week using his Nike Golf equipment. Diluted Earnings Per Share Expected to Rise 8% for the Quarter and 17% for the First 6 months -- Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:ELY) today announced that, based on current information, the Company's second quarter diluted earnings per share are expected to range from $0.56 to $0.58, an increase of approximately 8% compared to $0.53 in the second quarter of 2007. TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Brandt Snedeker became the tenth first-time winner on the 2007 PGA Tour yesterday by capturing the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship, edging fellow TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staffer Tim Petrovic by two strokes in the process. Key to Snedeker's win was his sizzling nine-under-par 63 in the final round, the lowest finish by a tournament winner on the PGA TOUR this year.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit recently entered a final judgment of non-infringement in favor of The Roger Cleveland Golf Company ("Cleveland Golf") and Taylor Made Golf Company ("Taylor Made"), ending a patent infringement suit filed by Henry-Griffitts, Inc. ("Henry-Griffitts") in 2004. In this lawsuit, Henry-Griffitts alleged that club fitting systems used by Cleveland Golf and Taylor Made infringed U.S. Patent No. 4,932,662 (the '662 Patent").

Cleveland Golf confirmed today that raids conducted on four separate locations by the Orange County Sheriff's Department on October 31, 2006 in south Orange County, California, resulted in two arrests and the confiscation of counterfeit golf clubs, golf balls and accessories with an estimated value of approximately $1,000,000.00. Acting on information and evidence provided by Cleveland Golf, Sheriff's deputies executed search warrants and conducted simultaneous raids at locations in and around the San Clemente area. Lead Investigator Brian Sims reported that "Operation Cleveland Golf" yielded more than 2,000 high-end counterfeit golf items marked with such brand names as Cleveland Golf, PING, Titleist, TaylorMade, Cobra, Callaway Golf, Nike, Mizuno and Yes Golf. It is believed the counterfeit golf equipment was smuggled into California from China.
